I remember watching a movie - How To Make An American Quilt. A story of a several women in a quilting bee as they construct a wedding quilt as a gift for a member's granddaughter; and there's more to a quilt than a fabric and thread. The theme of the quilt is "where love resides" and each patchwork design has its own unique story to tell.... and I fell in love with quilt ever since !

What does it mean to have a thousand friends on your Facebook? Does the number define who you are? I don't have that much of a friend but I am blessed enough to have a few that I have held close to me all these years, the ones that read mind and finish my sentence.

The ones that I can hang around with and find comfort in my own skin, knowing that they have seen the worst and maybe, the best in me.

As the saying goes: it is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them.

This girl has been so patient with me, and for that, I thank her. And because of that too, you should be able to see the different stages of their relationship. So I chose 3 sets of different patterned paper to reflect the changes. A bright yellow and red color to celebrate the early stages of their relationship, a warmth light green and cream for their big day and finally a dark blue patterned paper with colorful stars for the arrival of their precious bundle of joy.

My sister has been baking cakes for as long as I can remember, since I was small, playing hide and seek. I'd love to think that it was due to her being the elder sister, so she had no choice but to help our mom with the baking, but I soon learned that I just don't bake.

So I stayed home all day long - again - on this lovely Sunday - for another mini cardmaking class ! And this time around, I taught them how to make a Trishutter Card ! It was fun, with all the juicy gossips, french fries and nescafe in between :)

When you work in Claims, you deal with those who just lost their loved ones, or just being diagnosed with critical illness, those who are not in their best mood. The event date is not to be celebrated but to be taken aback.

While with handmade cards, you deal with the happy people - celebrating birthdays, weddings and anniversaries. And remembering the meaningful dates.

I am bridging these two world, and sometimes I tripped in between, which is not the best feeling but I am trying my best to close the gap. And today, a close friend of mine bought me a Craft Book, since it is indeed the first one I ever owned, I thought it deserves a mention here :)

And this canvas here is for a friend's sister, a friend I have known since I was in Convent Ipoh, those days when I was the nerd of the school ;)

While I was browsing through old photos of my cards, I came across this photo, a card that I made for my mom years back. I showed her the photo and my mom said 'tu la sebab berkat, sebab kamu mula-mula buat untuk mak'.

Let's hope that I won't forget why I started all these because to be honest, I barely have time to make any card for my own use now than I once was.

It's been a while since the last Tri-shutter card I made.

I've been doing it consistently for more than a year now I was afraid that you might get bored with it, which I seriously hope you're not.

Anyway, this is another version of Tri-shutter card: the reversed version. I came across this version while googling, and here's my take. It's kinda limits the space for photos and definitely more tricky, but it's an alternative ! A breath of fresh air !

I've been doing this consistently for almost two years now.

I know how hard it was when you first started, I had to keep looking at others' wonderful work for inspirations. I was most of the time clueless, idea-less and at times almost gave up.

But I am grateful that it gets better with time and I get more comfortable with my own work now than I once was.

But as you know it, learning is a lifetime process. And here is one more work I cannot take credit for, but keeping in my mind that I have to learn how to make it mine. Just like my trishutter cards, I learned from Google, but I am more than happy if you can see me through my trishutter cards.

So I made this one here from random objects - found in my father's tool box, my mom's sewing machine, from our old necklaces and bangles and from a nescafe can !

After my sister got married and moved to a new place, her Nescafe is one of the thing that I miss the most !

There was one birthday that I remember the most, back when I was in primary school. I remember I promised myself that I will not ask for a cake because by then, my father had retired and we had to struggle to make ends meet. And I knew for sure that we couldn’t afford to buy one.

But being me, despite the fact that I don’t really like cakes, somehow it just slipped out of my mouth that I wanted a cake for my birthday. I asked my mom for it, and she handed me a 10 dollar note, and told me that I can buy myself a cake.It was our last 10 ringgit so I asked, “If I took this 10 ringgit, how about tomorrow?’. And she answered “We’ll think of something tomorrow. Now go get yourself a cake".

So I did. And I regret that I did. Looking back, I always asked my sister, ‘How did we manage? How did Mak & Abah manage to not let us feel the burden? Not even a bit. How come people can never tell that we were struggling? And how come we always have cakes?".

But deep down, I knew the answer. It was Love. And Love all the way.

I have always love textures - and just recently I came to know the existence of gesso - a primer that makes the surface a little stiffer and adds some texture to the surface.

So after some research (or mungkin sebab hormon over-excited), I bought a small container of gesso (from ArtFriend, The Gardens), and made this layout for my dear niece.

If you'd notice, this photo comes with a slightly rough surface - that's because I coated my paper with gesso before printing. It's a simple layout, but I heart this a lot !

I am in the midst of preparing 30 simple (and express) thank u card for little Mikael. You know after rushing back home from my day job, I always think that I have all the time that I need to finish my card, aiming to start my work latest by 8.30pm, but then I found myself sitting in front of my laptop, blog hopping, news reading, editing photos, doing anything other than cardmaking. Soon it’s already 10pm and I haven’t had my dinner yet, and the house is nothing less than a mess. Comes 11pm, and by that time I know I’ll be staying up late again.

And I've been trying to stay away from taking sick leave for as long as I can, even when there's a time when I had to force myself out of my bed. I just don't know if the unwell feeling comes from my lack of sleep or because I was actually having a fever.

But I’m not complaining. I need my dayjob and I LOVE my cardmaking. So long I can do both, I will try my best to do so. In fact, if everyone else carry their designer bags over their shoulder, I carry mine under my eyes ! So I am grateful !

They got married 35 years ago - an arranged marriage.

Thus, they are not romantic.

But they are loving in their own ways.

Selalu makan sama-sama, suka bersembang sampai lewat malam.

And we've never heard them fighting or even raised their voice towards each other - not even once.

Traditional couple as they are, they don't exchange presents or anything on their anniversaries or birthdays. But we make sure that they wish each other every time. I guess, they somehow learned how to keep up with us.

I remember one of those kad raya I sent to our parents, I wrote:

Sudah Baca,Harap Balas.

When I called, my mother cheerfully told me "Abah kamu dah beli kad raya".

When I asked why, she answered "Dah kamu tulis suruh balas".

I seldom make anything for my own use.

Somehow I don't feel comfortable in doing so.

But this time around, I made a cover for my notebook. The one I intend to use during my day job.

And I realized, I didn't use any flowers or ribbons or laces; I don't know why but it just doesn't feel right to use them. All I used were some leftover patterned papers, a washer and a clock battery.

I asked my mom "Cantik tak mak?"

And she replied: "Tak lawa langsung !"

Haha, I love my mom for that :)
